2016 Night of Angels ‘A Love In‘

By Carol Roney V.P. Fundraising

‘A LOVE IN’ was truly what chairwoman, Maureen Carey and her talented committee created for this year’s Night of Angels. Maureen’s co-chairs Katie Gantner, Susan Hall, Laura Karmanos, Laura Keziah, Molly Robinson and Amy Zimmer worked tirelessly with the committee Nancy Barnett, Susan D’Orazio, Catherine Holden, Kathleen Jardine, Macklin and Madison Jardine, Patti Jessup, Carolyn Mergel, Molly Murphy, Tara Nittis, Teresa Rea, Carol Roney, Katie Stacy-Blake, Mary Pat Stacy and Sally Westerheide to take us back to a time where love beads, bell bottoms and flower power ruled. The Royal Oak Farmers’ Market was rockin’ to the music of DJ Captain 20, delicious food by Cathy Weatherford and the best donuts by Petey’s was enjoyed by all!

We can’t begin to thank our Honorary Co-Chairs, Jamie and Mike Burwell and Ajay Chawla enough for their participation in our event. Without their support, the support of our 40 event sponsors, and all the people who purchased items that night, we could not have raised the $110,000+ that we did! What a huge success for all the children who benefit from the efforts of the Christ Child Society.

The Live Auction certainly was lively thanks to the talented Auctioneer Dan Stall and the amazing experiences, trips, and tours gathered by Susan Hall and her live auction committee. Also, the Silent Auction had something for everyone! Amy Zimmer and Laura Keziah did a fantastic job acquiring over 50 packages of goodies.

We could not have been more proud or grateful to be able to present The Carls Foundation with this year’s Mary Virginia Merrick Award. Elizabeth Steig and Kathy Stenman accepted the award on behalf of the Foundation. Over the years the Carls Foundation has contributed over $350,000 to the Christ Child House for brick and mortar improvements, including the installation of a new institutional sized kitchen, new roof, lighting, stair treads, state of the art playground equipment and a basement playroom to name a few. Their continued financial assistance has made a huge impact in the House and the lives of the children we serve. We are humbled by their generosity.

Maureen Carey stepped up to chair our biggest event of the year. But she didn’t do it alone. She had her special angel, Judy Slivinski with her at all times. The Society is grateful to Maureen and her hard working co-chairs and committee members who planned this party to benefit the kids we serve.
